Child Safety

Last updated October 9, 2026

Spooly, made by Terminus Films, has zero tolerance for child sexual abuse and exploitation. These are our standards, how to report something, and what we do about it.

What's never allowed

Child sexual abuse material, or any picture, clip or recording that sexualizes someone under 18. Using Spooly to groom, exploit, threaten or extort a child, or to arrange to meet one for sexual purposes. Anything that endangers a child. This is in our Terms of Use, which everyone agrees to before sharing anything.

How Spooly is built

Spooly is for families and friends talking over their own pictures. There are no public profiles, no feed, no search, and no way for a stranger to find someone or message them: a memory can be seen only by the people in it, and after its first three days only the person who made it can let anyone new in. You need to be at least 13 to use Spooly. The person who made a memory can remove anything on it, remove anyone from it, block whoever added something, close it to new voices, or reset its link.

How to report it

In the Spooly app, open the memory, choose ⋯ › Privacy and safety › Report… and pick Something illegal. On a memory's web page, tap Report in the small print. Reports come to us, never to the people in the memory. You can also send us a message.

If a child is in danger right now, call 911 (or your local emergency number). You can also report child sexual exploitation straight to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children's (NCMEC) CyberTipline at report.cybertip.org or 1-800-843-5678.

What we do

Every picture added to Spooly is checked against known child sexual abuse images (Microsoft's PhotoDNA) before anyone else sees it. A match is never shown.

When we learn of child sexual abuse material on Spooly, we remove it at once, block whoever added it, and report it to NCMEC's CyberTipline, as US law requires. We keep a private copy aside only for the authorities, for as long as the law requires, and it is never shown to anyone. We work with law enforcement on any report.

Our child safety contact

Terminus Films has a person responsible for child safety on Spooly, who reviews every report and can act on it. Reach them through the contact page.
